But By Every Word

Even though I never wanted a blogger account, and don't know how much I'll actually blog, I've come to realize that if I want to be a participating member of the internet community it's a necessity. So this blog will be mostly devoted to comments on the Word of God, the Bible. Why? Because there came a day when I realized and believed that God exists, that He is righteous and just, and that His love for mankind (His creation) moved Him to do something amazing. Sin is a reality that caused me to be without God and without hope in this world. I could not do anything about it. He has reconciled me (not only me but anyone who believes) to Himself through the sacrifice of His only begotten - as opposed to created - Son, Jesus Christ. I learned this from the Bible. "And so we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts." (2 Peter 1:19) I'm paying close attention. And now, let my blogging adventure begin...

Pride/Humility

Sunday's sermon was one that was probably as hard to give as it was to listen to...if one listened with the heart.

The topic was pride and humility.

At lunch we were discussing the destruction of Sodom and Gommorah and the fact that "everyone" thinks God destroyed them because of homosexuality. Yet Ezekiel 16:49, 50 says, "Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had arrogance, abundant food, and careless ease, but yet she did not help the poor and needy. Thus they were haughty and committed abominations before Me. Therefore, I removed them when I saw it."

My son said, "Well, isn't pride the ultimate cause of all sin?"

I have been thinking about the sins I commit...and I think he's right.

Prov. 16:5-7 - "Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; assuredly he will not be unpunished. By lovingkindness and truth iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the LORD one keeps away from evil. When a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him."

Oh, Lord, help me to humble myself before you. Examine my heart and try my thoughts and show me if there is any wicked way in me caused by pride. Grant me a heart of godly sorrow that will lead me to true repentance, forgive me in Jesus' name and fill me with your Spirit that I might not sin against you.
